«Chimes of Freedom» (Campanadas de libertad) incluirá en cuatro discos otras 71 canciones originales del artista interpretadas por un amplísimo elenco de voces conocidas como Sting, Adele, Elvis Costello, Lenny Kravtiz, Steve Earle o Sinead O’Connor, entre otros, además del tema que da título al álbum y que cantará el propio Dylan.
La mayoría de los sencillos son nuevos o inéditos y el icono folk Pete Seeger, de 92 años, dará voz junto a un coro de niños al tema «Forever young».
El álbum, que se pondrá a la venta el 24 de enero de 2012, será producido por Jeff Ayeroff y Julie Yannatta, que en 2007 recopilaron versiones de John Lennon cantadas por U2, R.E.M. o Green Day a favor de la campaña de AI contra el genocidio en Darfur (Sudán).
Los productores han indicado en un comunicado de la organización que esta colección representa «una poderosa fusión entre el respeto de la comunidad musical por el trabajo de AI y la brillantez de Dylan».
Amnistía Internacional ha indicado que la recaudación por las ventas del álbum se destinarán a financiar la lucha contra la censura y a favor de la libertad de expresión en casos como el de Liu Xiaobo, ganador del Nobel de la Paz pero encarcelado por defender la democracia en China.
«La música de Dylan perdura porque siempre ha sido capaz de captar de forma brillante los latidos de nuestro corazón, nuestras alegrías, nuestra confusión, nuestro coraje y nuestras batallas», ha manifestado la directora de Relaciones Musicales de AI, Kran Scott».
